Meeting Minutes- October 10, 2002

 

Daytona Beach, Florida

 

  1. Meeting called to order at 0915 by Colleen Cowie, President-Elect.

 

  1. Meeting minutes of July, 2002 accepted.

 

 

  1. American Heart Association – Patrick Kennedy presented the proposed Florida Emergency Medical Dispatch Legislation.  The Emergency Medical Dispatch is a program of standards and protocols for dispatchers that help ensure quality medical services from the dispatcher.  Motion to support the program.  Letter will be sent to Patrick Kennedy.

 

  1. 2002 Clincon – NRP Provider Course was very successful with 13 participants.

 

  1. Reports: 
    1. State–Susan McDevitt presented no changes in Documentation or Equipment of Neonatal transport.  Starting January Neonatal inspections will commence.  Bio-terrorism presentation coming up this Monday thru Thursday to review regions and 7 primary hospitals will be involved.  Development of equipment competencies will be established.   Rule Development Workshop for Trauma Protocols and Trauma Agencies.  Two Research projects available – Adult/Pediatric Triage Criteria and second research will look at repeals of Motorcycle Helmets.  Will need assistance with reviewing Quality of Life, Nursing Home Regions, cost of care.  Will critique standards of care for those patients. Lastly, reviewed the EMS Re-organization.  Five major committees and members have been assigned.
    2. President – Louise has had several calls regarding who can transport neonates.  Will look at language and propose changes to Pam Wessling and Susan McDevitt.  Language proposal worked on during meeting.
    3. Secretary/Treasurer – Balance as of October $1,637.16.  Presently have 44 members.  Corporation Status has been approved as of July 30, 2002.  Copies available upon request. Newsletter Volume 9 distributed.  Need ideas/articles for next newsletter.  Please send them to mf15460@aol.com, or maria.fernandez@mch.com
    4. Board Members – Nancy suggested that in order to have increased participation that we have a mass mailing to programs with dates/times, information regarding the association.  Nancy will develop the flyer to send out.

 

6.       Accident/incident updates – Louise and Maria shared their experiences with the accidents with their programs. Major lesson learned was: safety education was of tremendous value.  The medical crew was able to use those skills during stress.  Also, all the letters/calls of support were greatly appreciated.

 

7.       President-Elect Term – Discussed confusion on President and President-Elect terms.  Reviewed the book and Louise took term of President in July 2001, and July 2001 – Colleen nominated for President Elect.  Term for President ends in July 2002.  July 2002 need to nominate other positions.

 

Next Meeting:  January 16, 2002 – Jacksonville, Florida.  Time to be announced.
