·         Membership by Nancy Hunter:

10 current active members. We are encouraging and soliciting active, affiliate, and corporate members.

National ASTNA membership is no longer required.

Applications for membership can be printed off the website.

·         Education: We are looking to expand the use of our Education Provider Number to include on-line education. John has researched this and we must put a course together and present it to the Board. Any suggestions/ideas are welcome.

·         TNATC Course (Pre-conference): A huge thanks to Michelle Kenly, Joe Pearce, and Karen Thurmond for coordinating this course. The course took place just prior to the AMTC and was very successful. 37 people attended. We are working toward being able to offer more TNATC courses here in Florida.

Grants and being looked at to set up an education fund for our members to be used for continuing education.

·         Jim Howard inquired about the new DOT course. Per John Scott and Johnny Delgado: This new revision is close to completion. There was discussion about whether this will require recurrency or will remain a one-time course. It will probably be left as a one-time course. Also, there was discussion regarding the amount if time allotted (post-hire) for this course to be completed. The State has no specific criteria. The Pediatric and Neonatal teams are also taking this course.

·         Bylaws have been revised as late as 9/01. Please view them on the website. Thank you David Summers. Also, we are working toward changing the Association name from NFNA to FL Chapter: ASTNA.

·         State Report from Susan McDevitt:

New quarterly State report does not include Trauma Transport Protocols.

Legislation for Governor Bush’s signature is on hold until after a special session is held for re-districting the State. These pieces of legislation include:

                   Air Worthiness Certificate

                   Interfacility Air Transport

                   Broker Issue

EMS Trust Fund may not be available next year. Currently, there are grants and funds available and it is recommended to take advantage of these funds while they exist.

Trauma and Compliance Monitoring:

Sacred Heart, in Pensacola, is completing its process for Level 2 Trauma Center.

18 site surveys will be done throughout the State (to include Flight Programs that are linked to these sites)

Methodology to analyze Trauma System Cost is in development. The study will include cost from time of injury (in the field) to rehabilitation.

Trauma Registry is up and running with 18/20 Trauma Centers reporting.

Inspection process is changing focus from QA to QI.

*Blood drawing issue: There was discussion about that the fact that any body fluid being collected for analysis and treatment must be done by a ‘certified lab tech’ and the tests be performed in a ‘certified lab’. This would exclude Paramedics from drawing blood in the field. The State would not support exemption but instead, recommended we petition through the EMS Medical Directors.

*ASTNA Report from John Scott: ASTNA is working on producing position papers for Nursing, Transport Nursing Minimum Standardization…. for 2002.

*AAMS Report:

A huge thanks goes to Johnny Delgado, Joe Pearce, and Ken Grimes for all of their hard work in preparation for AMTC.

Per Johnny: Orlando 2001 was the best-attended AMTC in AAMS history. 1900 people were in attendance (300 cancel/no shows).

Another huge thanks goes to Bart Bartkowiak for his enormous effort in working to get approval for exhibit A/C.

Conference locations: Kansas City (2002), Reno (2003), and Cincinnati (2004)

September 11, 2001:

There is data currently being collected to determine the financial impact this tragic day has had on our industry. Already, many programs have noted tremendous increases in their insurance.

A contingent has gone to Washington DC to actively pursue grants, loans, and ‘Bail Out’ money for our industry. The ‘Bail Out’ plan includes “Air Carriers” with no reference to ‘scheduled air carriers’.

AAMS has named Johnny Delgado as Region 10 Rep. Congratulations Johnny.
